unfortunately u can’t “network render” an avi file. However u can assign avi generation to a single node instead.
if u r using apple, i think Apple QMaster can utilize multiple render node while outputing a single video file. It’s a true “Distributed Rendering” solution
The problem in distributed render and movie files isn’t related to the movie file itself, but rather in the compressor used.
Most compressors uses intermediate frames (like I-frames in mpeg format) and then store the differences between those and the consecutive to decrease the space used.
I don’t know exactly how QMaster works on this matter, but I think it just delegate the assembling of the movie file to a central node.
This is something we are investigating for a future release, even most of the jobs requires frame sequences to be further composited, so the time spent to implement such kind of feature…
