Hi,
We’re having problems with single frame renders not assembling. We can get the job to submit and render ten slices across several computers, but the dispatcher won’t assemble the files. We get the error:
“Cannot load slice file T:path_to_fileMuster_sf_71_1.iff.1:Error opening source file!”The file is there, along with the other 9 slices, and it is a TGA file, despite having “iff” in the name. If I rename the file with .tga on the end, I can read the file.
Any ideas on how to get this working?
Thanks, Mike

You should check that the Maya scene you’re going to render do not force the render in .TGA file. Muster render the slices by default using the IFF file format (using -of iff flag), but if for some reasons, the render is done in another format, the assembler will fail.
You can override the default behaviour and use TGA by modified the single frame template.
regards.
13th December 2006 at 8:07 pm #14585Hi Leonardo,
I have the same problem. The dispatcher is not able to reassemble the slice. Even if in the scene the file format is set to iff. I already tried to change the file format in the template for TGA, it’s not working. Here is the error meesage:
(12/13/2006 14:08:07) Assembler chunk 3 belonging to job 4cylinders(294) returned error: Invalid slice size. Expected resolution on file \192.168.1.15projectsxxxanimheroxxx_261imagesMuster_sf_294_1.iff.1 is 480 x 1080 (Service) drf32(127.0.0.1)
we are triying to render a file of 1920×1080.
Can you confirm to us that the frame sliceing is working well in Muster 5.01 with maya-mr.
Thanks!
Dan!19th December 2006 at 12:23 am #14587We are aware of the problem, we have been able to reproduce it on our testing environment, it seams that’s something related to Maya 8 only. The weird thing is that Mental ray for Maya 8, is actually ignoring the “-of iff” flag used by Muster to force rendering in IFF file format, the uber-weird thing is that Maya reports something like “file format unsupported, using Maya IFF”.
We are investigating the issue hoping to provide a fix in the upcoming patch 5.03. We would like to avoid using two different templates for maya 7/8 so we hope to find a solution working on both environment.
In the meanwhile, if you get some kind of readable slices, I suggest you to assemble them manually until we find a working solution.
Next patch is scheduled in 15/20 days just for the end of the year.
13th March 2008 at 9:04 pm #14798We are having this same issue using Muster V and Maya 2008. Is this a bug again?
13th March 2008 at 9:04 pm #14799To clarify we are using Muster 5.4.2 and rendering with Maya 2008.
1st April 2008 at 5:26 pm #14807We are not aware of a regression bug. Could you explain your problem in a detailed way ?
Regards.
2nd April 2008 at 2:38 pm #14816It seems to be the exact same problem in this thread. We are using Maya 2008 and Muster 5.4.2 When we try even the most simple frame slicing (I was testing rendering a sphere with four slices), all of the slices render fine but when the job gets to the assembly phase, we get the following error:
Cannot load slice file W:fpwpprRFTestsframeSlicetestMuster_sf_40_1.iff.1: Error opening source file!
This happens with both Maya Software frame slicing and Mental Ray frame slicing.
26th May 2008 at 10:37 am #14826It’s a permission problem on the Dispatcher service. Try to start the Dispatcher service as a console application and watch the results.
16th June 2008 at 7:02 pm #14848I am having this EXACT same problem. Using Muster 5.5.1. Just doing some testing on a small network. The Dispatcher is on one computer and it is talking with 2 render nodes. Everything seems to work fine, but not matter what I try, I can’t seem to get Muster to load the slices for assembly….always get “Error opening source file!” issue.
I tried the dispatcher as a console app, but it still happened and I wasn’t sure exactly what I was looking for.
Is there any quick fix to this? As far as I know, all the permissions seem to be set ok. Is that the only solution?
23rd July 2008 at 1:03 pm #14867I’ll log this issue as a regression bug even it doesn’t happen on our test site. Could you get in touch with us directly at vvsupport@vvertex.com so we can exchange some queue files ?
