hi , just wondering if anyone else is finding the muster explorer interace incredibly slow to react or update to commands. Commands such as submitting a job, pausing or resuming render nodes, pretty much any command for that matter … even when submitting a job the explorer interface sits there for around 20 – 30 seconds before starting.
using maya 7.0 on xp.
been using muster for years with no problems up until now.
any ideas ?
21st May 2007 at 11:58 pm #14653We are aware of the reaction speed. A big difference in Muster 5 is that now data resides on a SQL db, even when it’s configured to work with the in-process sqlite. Just to explain that using the same system, it will be impossible to reach the speed of version 4.X that works in RAM and dumps periodically the queue status. Using an SQL database gives maximum file tollerance with the support of a journaling system.
The just-released version 5.2 address some speed issues, the network protocoll react faster and we optimized lot of the internal queries. You’ll find a huge improvement in the submission and the reinit of a job as well as the selection logic speed that were the critical data operations in the past.
Regards.
21st June 2007 at 12:24 pm #14696About this topic:
We are working on release 5.3 that will provide an in-memory cache working setup. This will speed up things as they were on version 4.X but won’t let INSERTION/UPDATED on the DB during Muster usages (only SELECTS). This will be user configurable, so if you don’t need to modify the database from custom applications, you can move to the in-memory caching feature when the new version will be ready.

11th July 2007 at 2:45 pm #14707Hi,
We are using 5.11 version of server and client.
We observe the same behavior on this slow react problem. In fact, we are forced to regularly restart the muster server service in order to regain reactivity.
We were wondering if upgrading only muster server in version 5.21 (and let clients in 5.11) could solve the need of restarting the server service?
If yes, how does it work with the licence? Could we just reinstall the new 5.21 over the 5.11 server? Or do we have to ask you a new licence?
Thanx for any advice.
Regards,
Bisounours11113th July 2007 at 2:39 pm #14708Muster 5.21 requires a full update, by the way it solves the speed issue with the previous version (you need to update the clients too).
Regards.

OK. Thx for this info.
And about the licence? Does this new version replace the old one? Or do we need to download a customize version with an embbeded licence.
Regards.
Bisounours11116th July 2007 at 8:20 pm #14712Any 5.X version share the same license with the previous one. You can update safely.
