I am currently a student at VanArts and we got Muster for our render farm. Its working but I just noticed that there is a mel, shelve and icons for a Maya Connector. I places the files in the maya folders and I do have the shelf and icons but when I click on any icon it says “no MUSTER enviroment variable. Connector cannot proceed!”
I do know some about windows variables but I do not now (or have rights) to install one for muster.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks,
Troy18th January 2007 at 1:51 pm #14609You can configure an environmental variables for your user account only modifying the file Maya.env available in your documents and settings/maya folder.
This is a workaround for users not able to configure variables system-wide.

5th March 2007 at 4:29 am #14618Hi – I’m a bit of a noob here so play nice
can someone please show me an example of their maya.env file showing the environmental variable named MUSTER that points to the location of the installed Mrtool executable?
I’m getting a “Publishing directory not exists or not a directory!” error when trying to submit from Maya…
I’ve tried a few different combo’s and the help docs and google aren’t helping me out this time round :S
Thanks in advance
J22nd May 2007 at 12:10 am #14661The problem you get is not related to the environment variable. If the connector starts, it means you’ve a MUSTER var configured. Good or bad, you’ll see it later when mrtool is invoked.
Regarding the error, did you specify a publishing directory ? The connector assumes you’re going to publish your work remotely somewhere on your network..
5th December 2008 at 7:29 am #14893Hi everyone im also a complete noob. I’m just trying to help a few friends build a renderfarm for a small project that they are working on.
1.) I’ve installed Muster on the Maya workstations but no Muster”shelf buttons” show up in Maya.
2.)The user manual tells me to define a new environmental variable named MUSTER that points to the location ofthe installed Mrtool executable “currently c:Program FilesVisual VertexMusterMrtool.exe how do I do this?
3.) It then tells me to load the shelves,it by simply executing the Mel command: loadNewShelf “shelf_Muster.mel”
Is this done from MEL command line in Maya?4.) It then tells me to source the .mel file:
source “MusterConnector.mel”
Is this also from the Mel command line? Please help!!!!
