We are running Muster 5.3 with 8 render farm machines. When I send a job that has for example 720 frames and a packet size set to 4, Muster sends 4 packets to each of 8 machines for a total of 32 at a time. The problem is that it will sometimes resend the same 32 packets and loop infinitely in this pattern until I either stop it or pause it.
My only solution so far has been to divide the number of total frames by the number of render machines and set the packet size to that. This does render the frames that I need, but it still starts looping/resending all the previous packets after completion of those packets. If I pause the render it finishes all the packets and stops. This works great if I want to baby sit the renders, but if we have 10+ renders set up in the queue and leave it for the weekend it simply is not an option.
We are rendering out of Maya 8.5… both software and mental ray.
maybe this is not the problem of muster, maya 8.5 sp1 claims that they have fixed the problem of infinite loop rendering if you have render layers. It rerender the layers again and again
I’ve encountered this phenomena several times and after i upgrade maya to sp1, the problem solved…
