Hello I have the latest version of Muster 4.51 and I am texting the software for out studio. I have a Windows system running the dispatcher. And have tow clients for the moment 1 Xeon running maya 6.5 and 12 G5 with tiger running maya 6.5.

The Xeon renders fine and returns the images to the shared directory. The G5 has problems I have been tinkering with muster for a couple of days with no solution presenbting itself.

my Logs:
External process launched with the following parameters:
-proj //Master/RENDERFARM/BP -s 49.000 -e 50.000 -b 1.000 -se 49 -be 1 -pad 1 //Master/RENDERFARM/BP/scenes/360manafold.mb

Engine Output:
Maya(R), Version 6.5, 2005 01 14 00 12
(c) Copyright 1997-2005 Alias Systems Corp.
All rights reserved.

***** Error: file: /Applications/Alias/maya6.5/Maya.app/Contents/scripts/startup/initialStartup.mel line 68: Cannot open project: //Master/RENDERFARM/BP
Error: File not found.: //Master/RENDERFARM/BP/scenes/360manafold.mb

but if I launch the same scene from the command line it renders the scene.

I have been reading the foroums to get some insight into muster problems. I have seen something like launching muster with the full path and setenv commands?? setenv MUSTER_PATH/usr/leonard/muster

could any one explain this in bit more detail.

Any help would be great I refuse to be beaten by this

thanks

jon

Shortly after posting the previous topic I managed to get muster working. I am using a an XP box as server and the two G5's as render nodes. using maya 6.5

Once I managed to get my head round the config files and share paths I found muster to be a handy pice of software.

Here are some pointers that are not in the manual (

*When you dock your shared drive to a mac it has to be by the IP address.(DO NOT CONNECT BY GOING TO MY NETWORK IT MOUNTS WITH A DIFFERENT PATH)
use the exact path For Example /Volumes/192.168.1.10. then select your shared drive. be sure to set the alternative paths in muster exactly the same.

*I dropped the muster and mrtool files into the user directory in a folder called Muster. and the config file into etc. (which it does tell you in the read me file. And I launch from the terminal using /users/purple/muster/Muster -v

*I created a SharedLogs file in user also because XP machines can only see into the user directory of mac machines.
/users/purple/sharedLogs

*I have also found using any space's in your projects names will screw up the macs seeing scene files!!.

I found the G5's to be much more reliable as render nodes than XP machines. XP seems to lose conections at some time during night for some reason. The G5's have not lost conection with muster server!!

Hey Jon,

I have Muster running fine on windows platform very well. But now I got few mac machines which am trying to setup on. I am working on this since 2-3 days but couldn't get hold of the permissions scenario.

I have a user name Muster on all my machines which helps me use maya as the render engine in the backend. So inorder to have the same thing done in mac, I created a user name Muster in the Mac's and wanted to setup the same.

Below, is the terminal commands runned. Please review it and help me if you can.

Welcome to Darwin!

Mac003:~ muster$ /muster/Muster-v
-bash: /muster/Muster-v: No such file or directory
Mac003:~ muster$ /muster/Muster -v
-bash: /muster/Muster: No such file or directory
Mac003:~ muster$ /users/muster/muster/muster -v
-bash: /users/muster/muster/muster: Permission denied
Mac003:~ muster$ /users/muster/muster/Muster -v
-bash: /users/muster/muster/Muster: Permission denied

I would really appreciate your help.

Thanks.

Keval
