Hello!

Not sure if I'm understanding the operation/function of the 'force logout' shutdown policy because although the node does logout as configured (either by date/time or idle status), the user is unable to log back in. When entering a valid username/password, Windows starts to login and then immediately logs them out- a system restart is required to log back in.

All of our clients automatically login so I'd like to force a logout after 30 minutes of inactivity. Any suggestions on how best to configure my clients accordingly?

Thanks,
Dan

Hello,

my question was not raised as a search disclosed. In order to get a clou how much every frame of our production took to render my task is to sum up the rendering times. As far as I can see a job's chunk details can not be used via copy/paste. How else can I gather the rendering times per frame let's say via copy/paste into Excel? Is there a way to read out the database which is driving Muster? If so, can someone tell me how?

With best regards,

We have a bunch of new Windows 7 workstations licensed with Maya. I'm attempting to add them into our Muster 6.x render farm. The machines are licensed, and render locally with Mental Ray for Maya, no problem, as well as from a locally issued command line. But when I attempt to render frames from Muster, the render log shows the scene loading normally, but it hangs, with no further progress, (or any frames rendered) at the moment the log comes to "initMPS with licenseOption 0"

As I said, the machines are licensed to run Maya, and MR for Maya runs fine on them, but the jobs die when submitted by Muster. Unfortnately, no more useful log is being generated - see below -- that I can pick apart. Any idea what would cause the chunk to die at this stage of the render? I suspect network permissions, firewall, etc., but can't sort out what's causing it.

Thanks.
(Sorry to repost, but I think I originally posted to the wrong list.)

I'm new to Muster and need help setting it up so I can submit render layers from Maya 2008.
The steps I've read have been a bit hard to follow, particularly because I have to figure out how things work without admin rights (IT dep't within a corporation).
Is there a step-by-step guide somewhere that includes a submit script and all the installation details necessary to get this to work somewhere?

Specific questions:
Do I need to reinstall Muster to incorporate Maya (Muster is installed currently but with no integration with Maya).
Is there a Mel script/plugin available for submitting jobs?
Can I submit MR .mi files using a mel submit script?

(Maya 2008, Muster 5.5.8)

Thanks tons in advance...

I've noticed that submission of new jobs through mrtool slows down as the number of jobs on the muster que increases.
As we load our render wall up with thousands of jobs at a time I was wondering if there is anyway to speed up mrtool, or to connect to muster (through commandline) once then send a large number of jobs to the que instead of authenticating and transfering templates with every submission.
Any thoughts?

I am having problems with the file permissions that my renders have when rendering on linux machines served by Muster.

The issue is this:
When I render my scene using the maya software engine the resulting frames are '-rw-r--r--' this makes them read only when seen by a windows workstation.
Strangly if I render the exact same scene with the maya mentalRay engine I get permissions of '-rw-rw-rw-' which is exactly what I want.

Does anyone know what the difference could be between these 2 engines, and how I can force the permissions that the renders are given?
Kind regards,

Most of our farm is XP64 except for one machine that's Windows7 (due to a scsi raid controller). Muster is set up exactly the same on XP as Win7, but when muster tries to render it gives an error message in the log file only on Win7:

Error: File not found.:
Error: Cannot load scene "T:/JOBS/scenes/job1.ma". Please check the scene name.
//Maya exited with status 209

I can open the file on this computer. The T drive is our shared server. The render client service is starting with Muster credentials, which is an administrator and has the server network drive mapped as "T:"
Muster 6.0.3

Is there a different setting for Win7 than XP?

Thanks,

Hello.

Updated to 6.02 last night. Worked well on clients, seems to be significantly more stable thus far. Just wanted to address a bug I found upon installation of the Dispatcher computer. It seems that when installing the dispatcher, when entering your registration name & code, it throws up a message about it not being a valid registration code (when it obviously is, and yes I tried many times to ensure there were no typographic errors). I continued the install without a code, thereby entering evaluation mode. After a reboot and startup of the console, I entered the same registration information through the console - "Licensing (ctrl+F2)" - and it successfully registered.

Probably just a bug in the installer - but it worried me at first so its probably worth addressing.

Thanks.
